Hi all,

I am setting up a community tank including;
  • Amatitlania nigrofasciatum x1male
  • exCichlasoma salvini pair
  • Herichthys carpintis x1male
  • Nandopsis tetracanthus pair
  • Rocio octofasciatum x1male
  • Vieja maculicauda x1male
  • Cryptoheros sajica x1male
The tank is 500lt with well hiding spots and optical barriers. All the species are not larger than 2" and 3".

Is this community will be a suicide tank or a semi aggrassive tank?

Thnx for the replies.

500=140 gallons right? What are the dimensions? The longer the better, but you'll be pushing it. You have way too many males and Salvini pairs can terrorize a tank once they breed. The Texas & JD may go at it as well, but it all depend on each fish's temperment. It may work now, but you'll have to get rid of somebody before it gets ugly.

Could you use a lighter color on the font I can't read it.

I think the Texas will be pushing it and the Salvini pair will push it beyond acceptable. Salvinis are on par with Convicts in breeding mode aggression, but they get much larger.

if it were me id start out with the rest and see how it goes before you add the above.....just my opinion

500 lt is about 140 gallons right. The dimensions are 100x100x50h a square tank. Salvini pair can cause trouble but Texas, JD and Black Belt were suppose to be the police of the tank with their aggrassion not enough to kill others.
Thanks for your advices, for now the tank can go, but as they get bigger, things can go ugly as you say. I have also 16 festae babies 1" long. I was planing to add one to this community but now I think not to.

What about the tank sizes? Is it suitable for a community like this?

I think you're going to encouter problems with that stock in a 140 regardless of shape, bu the square tank and lack of length is definitely also playing against your hand. Like the others said, I wouldn't put a breeding pair of salvini in here, they're only going to wreak havoc on an already aggressive, tight tank. I'd also consider cutting out the Black Belt or Texas. If you have them all as very small juveniles and want to give it a go growing them out together just make sure you keep a close eye on everybody and be ready to separate them if need be. Good luck.

Mouse over it... then highlight it. Lets not be retarded...

OP, Sounds like a lot of fish. I'd reconsider the JD and Texas with the other tank mates. Sounds like a future aggressive tank.

Wow. Some heavy hitters there for a 40" x 40" x20" high tank.

Definitely no Black Belt or Cubans. The Sal pair will be a problem too as well as the Texas.

Better off staying with single, smaller cichlids.
