Central-South American Community Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for your kind replies and suggestions. As I mentioned in my first thread it is still set up, currently I have;

exCichlasoma salvini pair
Vieja maculicauda x1male
Oscar x3

those will be included (or never included);
Amatitlania nigrofasciatum x1male
Herichthys carpintis x1male
Nandopsis tetracanthus pair (or single male)
Cryptoheros sajica x1male

I choose lots of males, 'cause imo the females are more aggrasive than males. Males are not so regional, only the pairs and females are so.

The updated community is as follows;
  • Amatitlania nigrofasciatum x2 male
  • exCichlasoma salvini pair
  • Herichthys carpintis x1 male
  • Vieja maculicauda x1 male
  • Astronotus Ocellatus x3
soon to upload a video and pictures

I would say give it a shot and see what happens. I have a 125 with a fairly aggressive stocklist, just check my signature, and so far so good. However most my fish are between 3-5". I would worry about the salvini pair. Any cichlid pair can cause trouble. If you had a couple male salvini I think you would be better off. I have kept salvini with texas, and dempseys and have seen a lot of texas with dempseys. I would also be weary of the black belt/maculicauda but other wise, give it a shot. That's my thoughts. Good luck and looking forward to the video.

Thanks for the comment, now they are cool, some little fights happen but not so deadly. They are 2-3" . for a year I think this stocklist will carry on.

Here is the video. The front is a bit dark. I have a problem with lights. The stocklist is Blackbelt, Oscars and Salvinis. Two Convicts and a Carpinte is added after I shoot the video

Those are some good looking salvini. What might help with the aggression is more breaks in the line of sight via wood/branches/roots. Good looking fish and setup though, good luck.

change the color .....I can't read it.........

sorry friend, the background is blue and the font color is white, everybody can read it except you :).

Looks good man! Definitely see that aggression from the male salvini but it looks like there should be plenty of room for em for awhile. Again, just watch the black belt and your sals as they grow. I came home one day to find my 6" GT beat to crap and I'm pretty sure my black belt did it. Just snapped!

2 questions... What are the dimensions of the tank? And what kind of rock are those big thick stones? Keep us updated.

Blackbelt started to act as a cop in the tank. sometimes convicts start a afight, blackbelt directly goes and stops the fight but i surely wait an aggression from him as he matures. Salvinis are cool only defending the territory right now. I think they will get mad when the frys start free swimming.

The dimensions are 100cmx100cmx50cm in height, something like 40" x 40" x20" height.

Nice looking setup! I think the addition of some driftwood for site breaks is a very good plan and one I've used extensively. With cichlids, you just never really know but the salvini pair will probably be your gauge as to wether it'll work or not. Very nice fish! Good luck
