Centrals with Platys

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Does it have to be platys, swordtails, or mollys? why not silver dollars? or tiger barbs(Large Colony?).

These livebearers (or at least their wild ancestors, don't think there's a lot of mickey mouse platys swimming around in the wild... I hope) are found with CA cichlids in the wild. Some people are in to that.

I like the idea of a biotype like aquarium and if it could add a little more action/movement to the tank as well as color that'd be cool. I already have 8 giant danio in each of my tanks. Check my sig. And I want to try the livebearer thing to see if they'll keep reproducing.

Mickey mouse platy are stupid. They don't even look that cool. Maybe I'm just not into disney enough to appreciate them. I'm looking at a marigold variatus platy. red tailed black variatus platy, sunset platy, or just plain black mollies. You can see em all on petmsart.com in their live fish.

I wrote this in an earlier post, but all my fish are 5-7", and my red devil/midas in the 90gallon is about 9". You can see all the species listed in my signature. Don't know if that helps put this shot in the dark in perspective or not. Thanks a lot for all the replies. That helps!

Don't know if this will help but I tried some Sailfin Mollies in my 90g GT tank after reading some posts on it. Had the mollies in there first for a couple weeks or so and then added two small GT's. They worked for about a week and then the dominant GT killed all the male mollies one by one. The females are still in there (about 6 months later) and they are pretty much left alone. Not sure if it was just because the males constantly bickered over the females which agitated the GT's or what.
