Centrepiece fish ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow everyone suggesting RTGG, may have to look into it. I heard they are big bullies though. I don’t want another case like my previous arowanas, killing all my Florida gars and peacock bass

I would also vote for Channa marulioides. They can cohabit well with your stocking without issues. I've seen them kept in multiples, pairs and not a single torn fin on any of them. They are chill with bichirs and it makes a pretty good combo. They can be quite personable as well.

Also, if you can find a very pretty one like a red or yellow sentarum, it would be a very eye-catching addition.

Caveden Caveden , I don't know if the red tail giant gourami is a good idea. esoxlucius esoxlucius 's gourami was cramped in a tank the size of yours when it was only 2/3 grown and it started splashing. I believe he can tell you more.

I've been watching the thread and I was going to comment earlier. The only reason I didn't was i think he has other preferences first even though a few members have recommended a RTGG.

Also, he hasn't mentioned the tank size on here which is an obvious consideration with this fish.

Mine is a brilliant centrepiece fish. He sticks out like a sore thumb because he is in with a load of small stuff, except the Bala's. He's a big puppy dog, lol.

But obviously it can go either way with this fish. Given his current stock I think it would be a mistake to get a tiny RTGG and put it straight in the tank to grow it out. Even though they grow fast it'd be in danger until it put some size on.

And if he gets a big one to start with he may end up with one that's already "set in its ways". He could get a bad one which won't end well for the rest of the fish.

I got mine when he was tiny and introduced him to a tank just after I'd already added other fish, so he didn't look on the tank as his. All his life (about 7 years now) he has been used to other fish. I believe that's why he's turned out an extremely placid, tolerable fish.

In short, it's a crap shoot, I'd choose some other fish, which I think he'll do anyway to be fair.
