Couldn't tell you if it's high end platinum or not. Looks just like the one on planet catfish

How sure are you of the common name? It may or may not be a sales trick trying to attract attention and get a good price. I am not a proponent of conspiracy theories but this logical thought (I stupidly think) just crossed my mind.

The first picture is only a partial, making it less valuable. The third one down however I would say is a higher end one.

One thing I have learned is even high end reliable vendors are susceptible to being frauded themselves. Many just go off of what they were told and if it looks close they stick to it. They really don't have time to positively id all species with as much volume as they push. I'd make sure 100% of the ID and to me that would be a totally fair price for that size of that species. Same as TBTB have never seen this fish species for sale before and I have searched for catfish lots over the last 14 years. :) JMO. Good luck.

In the end is 250$ worth it to you? fish prices go up and down so much unless your talking some of the truely rare.. and even then some of it's hard to wager.. I've seen 3' fire eels go for anywhere between 80$ and 300$ and sell either price... depends on whos selling it and what time of year ect ect... in the end if you really like the fish, and can house it. Go for it I say. why? because if its uncommonly found you may not get the chance at one again and kick yourself in the butt.. but if its not worth 250$ to you... no harm no foul and life goes on.

You will easily spend more money feeding and maintaining it in the end.

Seen this sp in the UK for sale, not common by any means but have seen them. And if i remember rightly Dieselmack who used to frequent these boards used to have one

lol, nevermind. Looking through the same thread linked he has a pic of the yarelli.

Dieselmack was a good guy. He had two Yarelli, in the same tank i think.
