a mountain ..far far away
i have 2 penguin 350's on one of my tanks ,if i were to put bagged ceramic rings in one instead of the filter pads .... how much would this increase the bio potential of the filter , if any ?

I have an Eheim that lists the rings as being for mechanical filtering and the rough gravel (lava rocks) is for bio. I'm sure the rings do bio too so just saying.

There are "rings" or "cylinders" that are prefilter mechanical media. Eheim's "Ehfimech" and Hagen's(fluval) "Prefilter" are examples of such.

There are also ceramic rings the are bio media. Hagen has the "biomax" for their Aquaaclear and Fluval brands plus there are other brands of cermaic rings too.

thanks .. Bderick67 , Im picking up an FX5 next week :D . your info is a big help .... all the " media " out there can be confusing to say the least.

I did that exact things with my 350's. I put them in the available trays at Dr Fosters and I put a Fluval 404 sponge cut in half as the filter to have mechanical filtration.
