Yes both XP3s are now removed. As I stated before no powerheads will be added.

I will see how well ammonia is processed before removing any more media.

Also as a note, the ac110 sponges are always thoroughly washed in hot tap water during each water change.

What ever happened on this set up Brian?... What (if anything) have you learned from exploring with it?

Because of work, no more alterations to the amount of media will be done. The tank is currently running effectively with the 2 ac110s full of bio media along with the one bag of media just hanging in the tank.

Likely I won't be able to do any more experimentation until after the first of the year.
