Ch-Ch-Check it out!! My Beardie Roxy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No kidding! And I did my research (or so I thought).. I was unsure about the sand.. I knew there was one type that was okay.. and they had them all in the sand so I thought she was big enough.. the person who sold said calcium sand is the best because they can poop it out... and it was $30 for the bag!

Then with the light I asked her if this was what I need for uv.. she said that its exactly right... I guess I didnt research the bulbs enough. Luckily I found the box for the bulb.. Im going to go exchange it tomorrow and get the thermometers.

arent you worried that since the heat bulb is pointed to the uvb that it could cause dammage to the light and posibly the dragon if it breaks?
im sure you can point it downward
because its not getting as hot on your baskingspot with it pointing inside
should point downward

No I never thought of that... I will get the same type of lamp that I have for the snake.. with a dedicated bulb.

I do have one more question though... with nighttime.. am I supposed to turn off the lights? Or leave them on? Do I leave one on? If so which one?

Ok I took the advice and went out and exchanged the light to a repti-sun 10.0. I took out the sand and got the thermometers.

Before I place them.. I have one more question. Do I need to have the basking area closest to the heat lamp or the uv lamp? Its hard to get them in the same place so I just want to be sure.

Heres a couple more pics.

well, sorry to say this..but thats a compact UV which is just as bad as a coil...lol..

what you need is the flourescent tube which costs about $20 along with a strip light fixture you can get at walmart for like 10 bucks.

you also need WHITE light on her to help her eyes filter out excess uv light and to emulate the brightness of her natural habitat. you may also want to look into a 20g long tank as temps would be much better for her in one.

you may also want to give her a smaller water bowl, excess humidity can cause respiratory problems for them, especially when they are small. they get their moisture from their food. i offer my dragons water in a deli cup lid once a week..sometimes they drink sometimes they dont and they are absolutely fine and well hydrated.

Can u please post a picture for me? I am about to cry right now I am so frustrated! The pet store I go to is not just 5 minutes away and they already rolled their eyes at me when I told them I need a different bulb.. "oh yeah you went on the internet huh?"

I told the guy I need a strip light and he said that is only good for plants. So before I go out again I would really like to make sure I do it right this time.

Oh and for the water.. the large bowl is for food, there is a small bowl in the back for the water.

If I go with the mercury bulb can I use it in the dome that I just got? Or do I need the shorter one for that?
