My lfs recently got in two chaca chaca cats.. Unsure if that spelling is right but it should certainly ring a bell for someone here.. My 130gallon is almost ready for its inhabitants (which will be peacock bass) and I'm looking for a bottom feeder as a clean up crew.. The little info I've found is that they grow to about 8" which is completely fine until the bass reach monster size but I'm wondering if anyone on here has kept them and how the experience was?

They hide all the time and are super skidish very cool but they have a big price tag around me and I have a hard to paying that much for a fish ill never see. Unless you don't provide that kind of cover in your tank.

I can get a fair sized one for a decent price which is why I'm more curious.. Definitely an oddball fish. But I also read they can lower ph? I'm unsure about how much they can really lower it and also even at full size an 8" fish in a 130g... Can't really see that affecting the water at all

Don't no anything about the ph being lowered but if I could get 1 for a decent price I would pick one up really cool odd ball fish let me know how it works out an maybe ill shell out the coin if there out and active in your tank.
Good luck!

8 inches is an absolutely bogus size... they get pretty big but grow relatively slow for a big cat. Heres a video of one thats around 19 inches.

They hardly ever move and prefer to bury themselves in substrate and wait for unsuspecting prey of swallowable size to meander by then they strike. I love them and hope to get a trio of them pretty soon....remind me of less active smaller goonch catfish.

I wouldn't worry about it lowering the ph that much in a large tank. The main issue, if you have lots of big, active fish in the tank, will be feeding the chaca chaca

Don't mistake this for a Pacman Catfish - two completely different fish.
Chaca - you will never see it +1 It also usually requires live food, so is not the ideal "clean up" cat.

Yeah I've been reading up on the live food which may very well not work out since most of the peacocks are on pellets and I don't want them jumping back to live. Thanks for the help though! And if 8" is truly a bogus size as stated it'll be hard to not completely see it.
