Howdy,

I saw these guys in the Frankfurt Zoo (Germany), and I don't think I've ever seen them before. Looks like they're a great fish to keep with aros (coming up in the video gallery), and they looked pretty cool. Does anyone of you guys keep them? If so, where did you get them from, and what are your experiences?

I have kept them as dithers, they are active (very), and peaceful but like any fish their size cannot be trusted with tiny tetras, treat them just like pinktail chalceus or bala sharks (they have similar appetites and habits). I got mine at an LFS that had them for sale as pinktails (macrolepidotus), they were quite small but as they grew the yellow fins became evident so I looked them up.

They have them at the LFS I get most of my stuff from, but they werent for sale.

I've had them a few times. nothing to write home about.

the last one that i had was very skittish. it was spastic to the point that it freaked the rest of the fish out. when ever i came close to the tank the pink tail would slam into the other side to get away from me.

IMG_0657.jpegThe same zoo, the same tank, is a single specimen left from that school?! It would be rather old, but I don't deem it impossible.

I actually ended up getting a school of these guys, but they ran into the glass and ate my plants, even Anybias. I got rid of them rather quickly, unfortunately. Beautiful fish.
