So.. I bought this fish to watch it eat gold fish occasionally and apparently it likes to only eat pellets haha Anyone else have the same thing happen or are these fish usually not very aggressive eaters when it comes to live fish?

Most the people that buy fish for feeding habbits end up neglecting the fish or don't know crap about them to begin with, hopefully ur not one of them, but that's y no one answered you. We keep fish because its a part of our life that makes us who we are, and we try and give them the best we can. Goldfish are horrible for a fishes diet, pellets are all in one wonder food that is great, NLS and omega one are good brands, read up fk and learn and enjoy them.

Chalceus can be kept as community fish, so I'm surprise that you bought it to watch it eat gold fish...

For real? You guys keep getting better...

Mine eats pellets, shrimp, and silversude chunks - I'm not a fan of shoaling Chalceus because they will beat the crap out of each other, even kill each other. Not to mention when one gets spooked they all get spooked - B-line right into the glass. I've had better results with one per tank.

I have a shoal of six and I have to say I love the way they align themselves and move together. I totally agree about the spookiness thing though, I hate the way they freak out and slam into the sides and lids.

Depending on tank size I would recommend a shoal of 4-5 Chalceus, be sure to keep lid closed since they are jumpers.

You can mix these fish with Bala Sharks, SDs, Tinfoil Barbs, and others to name a few.

Since they are not eating feeders (which is a good thing) I would not mix them with Red Tail Cudas or any other piscivore.

Chalceus are great fish to have and for the most part are very peaceful.. Mine does however, tend to get aggressive during feeding time when he tries to eat literally everything i throw in the tank, but it's nothing to really be concerned about. It's typically just a little chasing and bumping with an occasional nip. Mine is also 11 inches long so i'm sure that has something to do with it as well.
