Chalceus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a Chalceus as an attractive dither for my GATF. She (arbitrary gender assignment, btw) learned to eat pellets quickly from the tiger. She seems to be quite tame compared to my predators, but she can hold her own.

You know I have read quite a bit of your posts and you seem angry?
You just remind me of a scene in Bad Boys 2, when Will Smith told Martin Lawrence that he seems angry..

Chalceus are great fish to have and for the most part are very peaceful.. Mine does however, tend to get aggressive during feeding time when he tries to eat literally everything i throw in the tank, but it's nothing to really be concerned about. It's typically just a little chasing and bumping with an occasional nip. Mine is also 11 inches long so i'm sure that has something to do with it as well.

I would love to see pix of this 11" monster. Can you upload a few?

I was only wondering if everyone elses eats the same... Haha I am happy it eats pellets. But just like my bass I like to give them Live feeders every once in a while to give them some excitement. My chalceus is healthy and eating lots of pellets

I saw a huge 10" one in an LFS that was beautiful. I currently have one around 6" in my 225 and they make a great addition to the tank. they are territorial and don't like other surface dwelling fish being too close to them, but other than that they are extremely peaceful. they also go absolutely mad for pellets, I've had mine just over a month and hes grown an inch. he always has a big fat belly.
heres a pic of when I got him, see that front part? he is now that thick all the way along.

I highly recommend these to anyone who can house them!
