Chameleon vivarium help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, ViciousFish, you got lucky. The problem with Senegals is that they're always imported and arrive in the states in horrible condition. Whether it was your good husbandry or the chameleon's uncanny will to survive (possibly both!), kudos on impressing Ophiuchus.

Thanks Ophiuchus, some of it was luck and some was on the fact that I got him de-wormed. Almost anything imported from the wild, from across the world has got to have parasites.

Wow u guys know plenty!:)

I understand all the maintainence and the small amount of handling, but its good that you remind people as they will not have this much information. i will probably go with an all mesh cage if i get a chameleon, and will maybe add a wooden back to allow mist to settle on it and hopfully help with humidity.

thanks ever soo much for your help guys!

I have raised my veil up in mesh cages. I use the power-sun UV bulbs, as well as the PC uva/uvb 55watt bulbs. Only live plants are pothos. He is just over a year and a half now.

I bred Vields for about 3 years and all my adults were kept in screen. This was before neat little prefab cages and all mine were 5' tall by 2' by 2'. The frames were constructed out of 2"X2"s with a framed in door (made out of 2"X2"s). The whole thing, except the top, was wrapped in plastic coated window screen and stapled to the wood with a staple gun. The top was screened with steel screen for the heat bulbs. I put plywood on the bottom wrapped in lenolium. A Ficus tree and a bucket full of wet play sand and I sat back and watched the "eggs drop". Hope it helps. Oh yeh, I used to build those big cages for less than they are charging for the prefabs.

yeah veils are the more hardier species dont need that much humidity and can get them to drink from a bowl...
