Hey all. After losing a 20" Black last year while on Vacation, I have finaly picked up another. I bought this fish sight unseen, and regretably it arrived in a rather bad state. Barbels are lacking mostly, and fins are shredded. I am attaching pics, not much hope for the Barbels, but Im sure the fins can recover. Any opinions on the chances of barbaels growing back?

FYI the place I bought it from made things right, so no bashing here. I actualy am a bit pleased with the way this person handled the situation.

Thanks,
Chris

barbels is a maybe, sometimes they can sometimes they can't, but yours looks pretty damaged to be honest, and are pretty much gone. Fins will heal up fine.

I had a silver once...you might remember it. The barbels were a little stumpy when I got it(less than a .5"). They grew back in about two months to full size(1"). Actually one of them split into two. But they did grow back. I think you'll be alright.

Give it lots of time to heal, if the barbels do grow back they might be stunted, if not you can name your aro stumpy! j/k

Hope it recovers nicely!

I think you'll be ok IMO my jar lost most of one of his/her barbels when I first got her from lip locking with either my Oscar or Pacu.. her barbel round out to either side though... not straight at all... I'm not sure if that was natural or do to the regrowth process... best of luck n' keep us updated!

The barbels should grow back. All of my aros have lost there barbels at some point, and they grow back, but it usually takes 4-8 months in the state yours are in.

think the barbels should grow back though it would take a while. but i think it shoudl grow back since there's some of it left :)
the shredded fins should be good as new in no time :D
