I have a 6-7" Mayan (urophthalmus) and a 3" convict in my 7x2.5x2, picking up a 6" male festae, 6" male jag and looking to pick up a similar sized devil/Midas soon. What's the likelihood of this stock working out? I have plenty of big wood in the tank breaking it up so hopefully that would help a bit.

IMO that should be ok, at least for a while. I mean honestly when it comes down to it, that is a BIG tank. Maybe things get a little messy in the long run, but for a while I think you should be fine.

My thinking was that they'll all be starting off at the same size and the fact there are 4 would mean I would be less likely to end up with a situation where one fish kept picking on a single fish.. I know I should be fine for a while but I'm really hoping it'll work out long term. I could go down the route some people have and cram the tank with huge Americans to disperse aggression but I'm not a fan of that look.

Personally I don't like to keep fish that way.I like to think of the wellbeing of the fish.
I don't understand the need to cram as many species as possible in one tank. It's far from the kindest way to keep fish and they never look their best or behave naturally in these situations.

Make sure that they are all males. If any of those fish ends up being a female, trouble will be around the corner

Do you mean the 4 species I have listed? If so, I don't think four larger cichlids and a small cichlid in a 260 is cramming them together. If you mean the 6, 7 and 8 ft tanks crammed with 15+ large cichlids then I definitely agree.

The festae is definitely male, I have six jaguars to choose from and they're all around 6" so i'll be able to pick a male out of the bunch, the guy said there appears to be two pairs forming in the group too. The mayan i'm not sure on, will have to get a pic up and hopefully someone will be able to tell me. The midevil will definitely be male too.

I know there's a chance it'll all go wrong when the fish get larger but i'm willing to give it a try and see how it goes, even if it means having to swap the fish for others of the same species to see if I can find one with a more laid back temperament :)
