Chances of success?

I reckon you'd be left with the midas, convict; and either the jag or festae, more likely the festae.

But then, stranger things have happened; as long as you're willing to relocate when things get out of hand

I'm definitely willing to swap fish and remove major problem fish of the need arises further down the line. I've seen a few tanks on here where loads of large bruisers have been kept together, one in particular has a lot of large male amphibious species together in a tank, I guess these tanks have only worked out because so many fish have been crammed together to disperse aggression?

Pretty much. Anything short of that pretty much opens the door for one fish to become hyper dominant and kick the crap out of everything. Having said that, a mix of all males in the numbers that you are trying can work, but it is always a roll of the dice. Sometimes a person gets lucky. Even in a 7ft 260, most larger cichlids can bolt from one end to the other in the blink of an eye. Having breaks in the line of sight using driftwood rocks etc certainly helps, but there is never any type of guarantee with this kind of a mix. So with that said, good luck!

Thanks for your input RD, I'm hoping it'll work out. Festae and Jaguars are my two favourite looking cichlids and I love the personality alot of Midas/Devils have. The Mayan was a rescue from a fish charity, was 6-7" in a 14" long, 10" wide tank so I think it deserves to live out its life in a large tank. Will start a thread when I've picked up the 3 new fish this weekend and keep everyone updated on how things work out.
