This was my male (pair) that I got from Ruck Fules..... I no longer own them but will get another pair once a tank becomes available. Male was 14"+.
Beautiful fish, looks like a beast, looks somewhat different than other chancho pictures I have seen though?

Have a look at this chancho.
See the upper lip, and the way it is nosebone is curved over the upper lip.
I think this is typical for the chancho, but I can be mistaken. Maybe the fish that House has are amarillo's....

Anyone?

Beautiful fish, I am kind of thinking that House's looks a little different, still a beautiful fish regardless

I got them from Rapps. Bad thing is when I went in to check on them this morning I found them in a lip lock and looked like they had been at it for a while... For now I put them in separate tanks. Does anybody have any advice besides a divider? Just wondering if they would work things out without killing each other? I only have 2, and can't really afford to be losing one if I can help it. Any advice would be appreciated if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.
What size tank are they in? If it's not a very big tank and you've tried adding lots of new hiding spots then I don't think there's much more you can do besides a divider

I did put a divider in just now, and have them in the same tank once again. Hopefully the divider holds up!

This is a shot of one of the fish, the one on the other side is pouting behind the sponge filter cause he can't get to his partner. Will try to get better shots later.Chancho1.jpg

I'm sure their temperments can vary somewhat, but these guys definately like to bully other fish around even much larger fish ("in your face" so to speak), but don't have that same kill mentality (yet) that they seem to have towards each other... then again, these guys are only 3 1/2 - 4 inches max, so I'm sure as they mature they could get worse. I don't see them as being at all passive or more mellow by any means than the regular midas. Mine are definately more ill tempered. For only having had them a day in the tank, they acted like it was theirs right off the bat, and that is with fish that are up to double their size. I got some Red Isletas too, but they are not as psycho as the chanchos.

For right now as small as the chanchos are, I just put them in a 50 gallon breeder tank with the divider in the middle... hoping to get them to tolerate each other. They aren't in with any other fish, and I didn't want to have to divide any of the larger tanks (yet) just for the sake of the chancho, but I may have to eventually down the road.
