Change to trophy points in 2019

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The report is in; whomsoever wields the Hammer of Thor next will find a ready list of transgressors to smite.

Better get a hard hat. :)

I wonder when will the new administrator take charge.

Good going, S Samuel420 ...you just did it, revitalizing a thread that last drew breath 10 months ago. And that last post was done by a bot (which I reported)...and I'm pretty dang sure you are one too (so I reported you as well). :)

Bot on bot action, right here on MFK. This is better than female mud wrestling! :)

Perhaps better than female mud wrestling, but not better than my and AR1's dumb debate

I never pay any attention to the contests, points, awards, trophies, likes, hates, indifferents, blah, blah, blah...although I do like checking out the photos submitted and sometimes I even vote! :)

But...lately it seems as though you guys need to add a new trophy/award to the list. There looks to be a heated competition amongst new members to see who can dig up the oldest deadest posts and bring them back to life with pithy comments; they pop right up to the top of the New Posts list, and since some of those necrotic threads bear titles that might be of interest, we click on them and...are disappointed...

That kind of dedication deserves recognition!
Haha, that's a great observation! It’s amusing to see those old threads resurrected with fresh comments. There’s a certain skill in finding buried gems! Maybe a “Necro-Post Master” trophy could be in order? At least it keeps the community lively, even if the original discussions can be a bit of a letdown. Keep enjoying those photos.

Better new users reading and Necroing threads than not. We're in a hobby where we keep living things and on a forum that's what? 20? years old.

Facebook and Discord etc. just don't have the same information permanence.

Giving people little digital trophies in exchange for learning about the past and getting interested in things and sticking around to share in the future works.

The more we all know the more we can all keep stuff ALIVE, as it should be.

Agreed, there is much of value in vintage postings; perhaps we should have a system similar to that on another forum I frequent. If you try to post on a thread that is more than a year old, a warning appears; to paraphrase, it says "Hey, dummy! Do you realize this thread is older than you are? Before you post in it, maybe you should consider starting a new thread in which to cast your pearls of wisdom."

Of course, that would only help if the would-be raiser-from-the-dead wasn't aware of how old the thread was and required a gentle heads-up. But I think most of these guys know darned well that they are replying to a thread that dates back to the previous millennium, and they just don't care. They've got something to say on the topic and they are dang well gonna say it! Might be worthwhile...might be dreck...either way, maybe we can have a siren or flashing light or something to warn those of us who might think they are reading something that's actually relevant to us today.

My favourites are the responses asking if a certain fish is still for sale...12 years after the ad was originally posted. :) "Is this fish still available?"

"Why, yes, yes it is. It's now 5 feet long and needs a cane to get around, but it's in great shape otherwise; just waiting for the right buyer to come along..."

LOL

I wonder if there's a way to automate closing buy/sell posts after a certain amount of time so the dead ones drop off. no action in 6 months? closed thread. i'm sure it could be done manually BUT that's a LOT of work
