Changing colors

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In addition to food effect on overall color (relatively permanent), there are also the dramatic color changes related to mood of the fish in question, which can come and go quite quickly. I am sure we all are aware of this, but I wanted to show an example.
Below, the same fish as normal, and in 'showing off' mood.

^ Yep, I can relate. My discus can be really beautiful and flashy (which is most days) or be dull and almost black on others. Just depends on conditions and mood. I had a baby Oscar for a little while, and that thing changed colors like a chameleon the entire time I had it. Some days, it would be dominantly olive green; others, it would be a radiant orange. Personally, I think Oscars change colors more than other fish. I know there are other fish that are like that, but I think that Oscars are just little chameleons.

My other fish (except the blue Discus) hardly change colors; they tend to stay the same color daily with occasional changes (especially during water changes; I think they freak out and change colors).
