Hi all, I am new to arowana but not to fish keeping.

I have owned my high back RTG for around 2 months, it is 11 inch ish.

I was told that it has only ever eaten mario worms.
I initially fed it mario worms and dropped floating pellets with every feeding, the arowana had no interest.

I tried starving for 4 weeks adding pellets every other day again no luck.
I then attempted fresh prawn and sone other frozen fish.

After this I have reverted back to super worm which it eats very well, this time I am putting the worms into the pellets to hope they may eat some/take on the flavour.

I will attempt starving again but want to feed it up first.

Current tank inhabitants are stingrays and a few cichlids, cichlids were added to put some competition for feeding.

How long can I starve for?
And is there a chance because of its size it may not take pellets?

Many thanks
GG

Though I'd add the pellets I'm trying to feed are hikari food sticks

1 month starvation for a fish that large is easy. I had a wild fish half that length (6"), and it took food after 1 month. You should increase to 6 weeks, and if that doesn't work 8 weeks, and then 10 weeks, etc.

Thank you I will try 6 weeks next time, I wasn't sure how long they can go.
Thank you for taking the time to reply

I just remembered that I also had a fatty SA pike at 12.5" starve about 3 months, and didn't look that thin.

I guess in the wild they don't eat everyday and have periods where food is scarce.
Very interesting that any animal can go that long without food.
But yo get onto pellets it's well worth the wait
