I have decided to go in a different direction with my 180 in the living room. I'm tired of worrying about fights and aggression. In the tank I have a lot of fish I'm attached to, so this will be hard, but I feel like I need to do something different. In the tank I have a male GT of 8", an oscar 8", various parachromis (female dovii, jag, four loisellei), a black belt, a synspilum, and two filament barbs.

I'm thinking selling all the parachomis and the GT (which will be hard), and trying to find a group of Geophagus sp. Tapajos "Orange Head". I'd like to keep the black belt but if he has to go I can sell him.

So the question is, can an easygoing oscar and synspilum co-exist with a group of clown loaches and a group of Geophagus sp. Tapajos? If not, which fish should I be after instead? Any other geos that are colourful?

I'd like some sort of breeding to happen in the tank, but I can live without.

Thanks!

do you think the agression would stop if you remove the 5 parachromis? the other 3 seem like they would leave each other alone for the most part.

I feel you with the selling off of pets, it's tough. I recently found myself in a similar situation getting tired of the aggression. I sold most of my aggressive fish except for two that I still have for now. I went with a shoal of wild morph snook(s) which I've wanted for a long time. So for now I have nine snook living with an Ornatum and Grammodes in a 265g, looking to rehome those two. Well anyway, I can't give you advice on the mixing, only sympathize how difficult it is to sell your fish. Of course you'll be fine, and happier with your setup in the end when you get it the way you want.

It is actually not the parachomis that are the problem, it is the GT! Anytime a fish approaches his size, he terrorizes it!

I know that eventually the parachromis will be the problem though.

there will also always be a balance, depending on the particular cichlids mood that you have, and also with space and species. you need to keep tweaking until you get the balance right.

I personally think the Tapajos and clown loaches would work fine.

I cureently got rid of an 8 inch grammodes to free up a 75. Now I have 6 grow out geophagus peach face tapajos 2 with 4 adult 5 inch roseline sharks, and a femal albino bn pleco. I love this 75 and really don't miss the agressive grammodes and his killing sprees and the 1 tank he would hog to his self. There are monsters out there that ar not agressive like cigar shark (Leptobarbus Hoeveinni) and giraffe catfish.

Sorry to here this but i know how you feel my CA's are also giving me alot of trouble aswell.

I think you will probley end up having to get rid of the Black Belt aswell.

Good Luck.

Thanks Darren.

It's most likely the black belt and synispilum will end up fighting until one dies, both can be very aggressive. The safest bet with geos may be the oscar.
