when putting in a new chlorine remover, do you rinse in reg water or in old tank water?

Chlorine remover? Are you referring to the charcol carbon?

I would not even bother with the carbon. Just use the sponge and the biomax. When doing filter cleaning rinse the sponge in tank water and don't rinse the biomax. The extra room you have left from removing your carbon fill with more biomax.

;) First, it's usually recommended that you rinse what ever media in 'old tank water'. There are some that use 'tap' but you risk killing off your 'BB'. Second, if you're refering to the stock 'ammonia remover' insert (Amrid), that as well as the carbon (Zeolite) insert is not really necessary for the A/C to function. Save them for an emergency & increase the 'bio media'. You'll find that this move will have your A/C funtioning more efficiently & less costly. "T"

So your recommending using the sponge and then two layers of the bio-media, no carbon?

;) Some do it that way (Double 'BioMax'). Others double up on the sponge. Some use 1 and a half sponges & the 'BioMax'. 3 of my 300's & 2 of my 500's (now 70's ? 110's) were before A/C included 'BioMax' as stock. I've since purchased 2 more 110's (on sale) for standbye. I chose this http://www.petsolutions.com/Seachem-Matrix+I10101180+C10274.aspx for 'bio' bagged in http://www.petsolutions.com/AquaClear-Filter-Media-Bags+I15511360+C10276.aspx along w/ the stock sponge. I also use the Seachem Matrix in my canisters. Your choices are many. You can't go wrong as long as you're adding more 'bio'. The stock carbon & ammonia remover can be saved for med or tannin removal or a mini-spike. "T"

Pot scrubbies are good for sumps or large cans like fx5. But you could'nt fit to many in a ac70. So the biomax is a better option.

I say you use whatever makes you cmfortable in your filter, if you want to use the carbon and its brand new you can rinse it in whatever, if your cleaning it use old tank water.
