yeah im in the same boat too, i think i will drain the tank to half way and take out all the gravel, i will have the sand all prewashed and ready to go in, turn off heaters and impellers and all that fun stuff lol. then scoop in pool filter sand with my fish still in the tank, then add some more water so its essentially a water change. i dont think it will harm bb too much considering i have a rena xp2 canister with tons of surface area for bb to grow in it. it will be a quick change and less stressful on the fish then scooping out and acclimating and it would be far quicker.
i have hardy fish so im not worried but with more fragile species i would be careful.

I don't really agree with your logic, but it's up to you; I have given my advice.

Let's say it's really hot outside with a small shed close by(indoors). Now there is a sandstorm coming, but you're really enjoying a nice cold beer while laying under the sweet warming sun.
Would you say it's less stressful to stay outside as the sandstorm hits than taking cover(let's say it's a small room that's pretty dirty from lack of maintenance with a foul smell[for my analogy]) and coming back out when the storm passes?

It's not necessarily less stressful, but it's safer to go indoors.

I hope the analogy makes sense.

I understand your analogy. with that being said I have thought about it and putting the fish stress aside it would be far easier for me personally to take them out because they would get in the way of me scooping out the gravel and rearranging all the rocks and plants. The only thing I have a disagreement with is keeping the fish In the quarantine or temporary tank for a week. I would rather just acclimate them as soon as
possible and be done with it, although I do agree that it would probably be best for the fish but I would like it done as fast as possible but when it comes to me and my fish I always take things slower and more cautiously then i plan.
