I will be doing my first water change on my 600g tank and I have a few questions.

It takes awhile (an hour or more) to drain and fill 20%-50%. I have to unplug the return pump while I drain the tank. How long can a wet dry filter not be running before bacteria starts to die off?

I have a python to help with water changes but it still takes forever. What else is there that moves more water?

SORRY i cant answer your question.but I'm sure someone here will.i see you have a large tank.and i was just wondering where you got it because I'm looking for that size as well..

I saw someone with a pump hooked up to their python making water changes 10x faster. Just an idea...

Your bacteria should be fine for an hour. You could also put a damp towel (soaked with tank water) over the drip plate to make sure it doesnt dry out.

I think i noticed that you had a big magdrive in another thread, hook a hose up to it and use it as a water change pump:)

Thats what i do.. if you can , use a larger diameter hose .. you can easily get those at home depot and hook it up to a large pump.. it will drain your water much much faster and you will consume less water than you would with a python.

I just turn the water off after I've started the siphon. It's a little slower, but works :grinyes:

Works better if your sink is lower than your tank. With mine i can pee more water
than my python can drain without back pressure from the faucet

:iagree:

Big Mag Drive (3600) hooked up to a garden hose to empty, then just reverse process by hooking up other end to your house's outder water spigot.
