changing water on monster tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I added a hose bib to the waterline in the basement where my tank is...now all I need to do is open a valve to add water. It was a cheap $5 fix that has saved alot of time and mess.

Bought a tall gravel vac and threw the hose in the trash. Found a nice kink resistant hose from hardware store and attached a male garden hose adapter to one end. Drop the hose out the sliding door and attach to garden hose and pick a tree to water. It has a little one way flapper in it so all I have to do is shake it up and down and it stars the siphon.

To fill I ran a hard line to just above my aging tank.

Right out the window and fill with the python. On my 125s. The Big tank I run the python into the sump let the sump fill about 60% then take a 1"ID hose into the top of the tank to clean out any debris. then just run the 1" to a florr drain. (tanks in the basement) Once the debris is out I still want more water changed but don' want to piss of the fish any more. so I then take the !' and put it into the sump and fill and drain at the same time. For about an hour. It will do around 150-200 gal this way.

3/4"ID vinyl hose
20 gallon rubbermaid tubs
shower hose addapter
spare pump

I dont like wasting all the water required to do a waterchange on my 125 when using a python, so I use a normal gravel vac out the window and drain it that way, then I refill with the python.

I have a python its the best thing to me i wouldn't have it no other way it's fast and easier than buckets i've done both bofore.

I use tahitian black moon sand so i dont have to vac the gravel like others. My 175 runs 1200gph so the current picks up most of the poo and the fish stir up the rest. I just hang the python over the edge and try to find something to do for the next 30 mins. During the warmer months, i hang the hose out the window and fertilize my azalea bush. The one by the wind is HUGE!
