Okey. You Think i Can Keep hon together with a Channa Diplogramma
or is that just stupid?
how aggressive are hours atm?
I would say that's not gonna work. If you ever feel tempted to do it, experiment with equal size specimen. And the moment you see aggression quickly separate them. But the general rule is Snakehead species do not mix. It is like trying to find a way to make two male plakat bettas to get along.
Yes I have seen mixed Snakehead species in large public aquariums but that's just not my experience or the experience of others.
Someone here said the Platinum Argus (PA) is not so aggressive or are peaceful. That is not my experience or the experience of others I know who own them.
The first time I got my PA he seemed timid and innocent. But as soon as he settled down he turns out to be the most aggressive. If he got bullied when he was small and survived it, that will quickly change as he grows. He will not take any tank mates, whatever fish it is.
An Emperor Snakehead will not like another Snakehead fish but may tolerate other fish of equal size. But my PA will tolerate neither. If the fish is big he will bite to kill it.
Channa Argus have killer teeth and he loves to bite. A guy I know bought a pair of PA and turned out they fought violently and got separated.
However a member here has 4 of them together with no aggression so far. Maybe if you increase the number of the same species it will not end up 'you or me' type of territorial behaviour. I can't say this for sure, it is always a risk.
This is why many end up with one Snakehead per tank and that is why it is important to choose a Snakehead species with a great personality and not just which one is prettier. Because depending on why you want a Snakehead fish, a species with a boring personality taking up the whole tank can end up boring and numbing. So you have to choose the right Snakehead for you.
PA is a great choice. It may not be the greedily swallow it all Giant Snakehead or Striata type of Snakehead but it is a bite everything that moves or that comes too close type of Snakehead. And once it has claimed the tank it won't accept tank mates. Plus the bigger it gets the more aggressive it becomes.
Speaking of its hunting behaviour, he may be slow and solely relying on ambush in the beginning but that will change as he gets better hunting. He will start to chase all over and keep eating until his belly is big. So it may not be the born skilled hunter like Giant Snakehead or Striata.
Hope that helps.
