I just impulse brought an asiatica after little reasearch an I am hoping he can live (ideally with a female) in this size tank for life.

Let me know if I have just made a mistake!!

Plenty of room for a solo asiatica. Not so sure about a pair though. Asiatica are one of the most aggressive species. In a 100g I would expect a pair could form if u started young enough but I doubt they would make it through breeding season without ripping each other apart. They are ridiculously aggressive toward each-other even when paired.

Also to get a pair you'll need a group and hope that a compatible male and female pair up. The others will likely get killed in the process before u can get them out of the tank. Once the pair forms things turn nasty fast. If u try just adding one male/female in a tank they will typically fight to the death.

Hope that helps.

Ahh the harsh reality of keeping certain channa. I am literally clearing out my south american community for this one species so I was hoping to get atleast a pair lol

What size do these typically grow, as per usual I have read conflicting information?

The max is around 12", a bit smaller if male a bit bigger if female . My female is 6+ years old & Full grown she's just shy of 14".

Mine paired up young by 4" she had shredded all except her chosen male. When he got frisky in their first breeding season she destroyed him in the typical fashion, bit his tail off , ripped the belly out then skinned him alive .

Ya the reality with most channa is that they are best kept solo , it takes a lot more space and a bit of luck to get a pair to form and even more luck and planning to get them both past breeding season alive lol.

Thanks for info, much appreciated. Wow I have never known of any species to be so harsh on their own kind! I think I am going to try my luck at getting a pair. At least I know the risks!

Are there any other special requirements I should know of apart from the usual, temperature, water flow, cover etc? I read somewhere about the substrate needing to be dark to make them feel secure?
