Im thinking of getting 3. Let them grow and keep a pair (male+female).
I have been reading about them here on the forum and i have some questions.
1. How aggressive are they? I was thinking of putting them with polypterus.

2. How big will they get (i read over a foot).

3. Are they easy breeding? Any tips?

4. How do you sex them?

5. At what size can they start breeding?

6. Are they tropical? I read they should be kept in temp 14-21° C.

Need fast answers, will be ordering this evening!

1. one of the most aggressive Channa, my female killed the male after spawning and I've heard that same story a dozen of times

2. 30-35cm should be average

3. for my pair it was a skipped waterchange that started them breeding, relatively easy thoug, as long as they don't kill each other

4. male have more silver spots and bigger fins

5. hmm, guess: 25cm

6. they are subtropical, so temperature around 20°C should be fine

I've kept mine with 2 senegals in 400 litres, but there is no guarantee that it works. Also, it's not a good idea to get only 3 juveniles, 5-6 would be more appropriate in order to assure that they can pair up. getting mature specimen and try to pair them up will most probably not work.

Thanks, i will still only be ordering 3, if i will order them, they are expensive in Iceland. I will just make an attempt. If it wont work its just a lesson learned.

HI,

they are subtrtopical.
Mine spawned at 20 to 21 °C. The pair was not aggressive for some time, than the female ate the males tail.
After the stump healed I put them together again, and after some weeks of peace, she bites chungks out of the sides and the spine was looking out of the wound . After that attack the male died.

The bigger babies feed on the smaller ones, when you dont select them to similar sized groups.

Whats the price in Iceland ?

Cheers
