Channa Assam or Gachua?

Thank you tokyogasmask for the valuable feedback.

Just crossing my fingers that this redfin of mine won't have this washed out colour as it matures.

Right I'm very confused now. What makes this a redfin and mine a gachua?
Apart from mine not having as red-a-line down it's fin, I don't really see any difference.

How to distinguish between a Channa Gachua and a Channa sp. RedFin?

In the absence of any better pictures (or any visible characteristics which clearly identify these as sp. Redfin), the snakehead in OP's pic is most probably a Gachua.

Wrong. OP's Snakehead is sp.Redfin.
Check the speckles on the head (and in some cases body).

Thanks Tokyogasmask!

I was looking for an answer in the format "This is a sp. Redfin and not a Gachua because of _______________".

As you have now mentioned, that distinguishing characteristic is the presence of speckles (or black spots) on the head and the body.

Thank you for this..:)

I look forward to learning a lot about Snakeheads on this forum from experts like you and others.

Regards,
Sid
