I also haven't really looked at mine from top down. I found them to be quite hard to tell apart. So far rhe only difference that seems quite clear is on the tail, keep in mind mine are still young but at this point it seems males have a distinct wide unbroken red band around the caudual fin . On the Dorsal I'm fin I'm also starting to notice that on males the red band is wider and at the back of the dorsal on males the red band curves down to the spine, while on females the red is more orange and only on the top of the dorsal fin.
Thanks, And sure here you go, not all tht impressive its very dark and I just moved them into this new tank so it'll take a few weeks those water sprite to fill the tank. Darkness also hides the three 6" chunks of 2" black PVC that i have on both sides that add extra hiding spots.
All 6 are still doing well, ended up with 2 pairs abd 2 spares.
The pairs both built nests this spring but no fry . I belive they were still too young to produce fry but if all goes well they shoud breed next spring!
