channa bleheri problems !!!

hi all, i am hopping for some help with my channa's!

i picked up x2 "rainbow channa" both around the 4inc mark 2days ago, however all thay tend to do is fight (jaw lock)

i contacted my lfs and asked if it was just because i had the two and would it be better if i added a one more snakehead.

i added another one today (same size) and now the first two still fight and now and again the new one joins in aswell.

i would like to try and bread them if i can so some advice with that would be great aswell :popcorn::popcorn::popcorn: many thanks.
 
at first i put the two in a 5ftx2ftx2ft with cichlids (small) and thay kept getting nipped, so i put them in a 3ft x 18inc x 18inc tank thats well planted and full of fry (its the only tank i had spare) thats when thay started fighting!

i did not think it was down to tank size at this time, my thought was like some cichlids and red tailed black sharks, the rule of thumb being to keep 1 or 3 or a big group!
thats why a added the 3rd.

however its still a problem, my thought is now to get rid of all my cichlids and keep a large group of channa in the 5x2x2 tank

once again any help and advice would be great

Hi,I keep my 3 bleheri in a 3ft tank.They are fairly peaceful,but do not have tankmates.I suggest a species tank,like the 5ft you have with 5 or 6 bleheri.
 
hi gigas12, today i have had a good look and and all the fry have gone!

1 channa (the boss) is leaving the new one alone! but the other is staing well out the way in the top corner of the tank.

could it be that the first two could be male and the new one i added if female?
 
Hi devon your channas behave almost exactly like mine.Every now and then they chase one another,and some times they lock their jaws together.For sexual differences only time will tell for sure.
 
i was thinking of taking the boss out and see how the other 2 get on because the first 2 just dont stop fighting when thay see each other.
or should i just give it time?
