I brought this pair about 3 weeks ago..then i simulated them to breed..reduce the temparature..then after 3 days they started this behavior..i think u gave the answer already..female chase the male time by time..sometimes touching their face to face..but yet no damages.. Male is about 3.4 inches,female is about 5 inches..with tail..

I didnt waterchange more than two inches of tank.. Water level is 6 inches.. And i chilled them reducing temparature..after few days water was very cold even now.. Then they started this behavior..as u said i think this not going to be work well..female is 5 inch,male is 3.4 inches with tail.. Female chasing on male sometimes..he runs everywhere...,
