also yes they are sub tropical however in the wild they survive temperatures of up up to 82 degrees in the summer. mine are at 70 currently. they go down to 65 degrees in the winter. also to promote breeding they should be kept at the higher end of the scale.
 
You are off to a bad start using feeders. Especially of the orange kind!

Pssst... There are some of us that have sucessfully bred MANY dwarf Channa here including sp. Assam, so no need to inform us on water conditions. :raspberry
 
its not a gold fish, i also dont really use feeders. its a platy my girlfriend decided to buy before adding the Channa. you should never assume :)
