Hi, I have a 300 Gallon tank and I ma thinking of a snakehead community tank?

I prefer channa aurantimaculata. Can I put a group of adult fishes in 1 tank?
Wat size and number is suitable?

If channa aurantimaculata is not possible for a snakehead community tank; what species are?

All tips of making this work are more than welkome.

Thanks.

The Only species of channa that can br housed in groups is channa pleurophthalma. The others will fight until they've kill eachother down to a pair, or in many cases right down to a a solo fish.

Last time I have 6 striatas from thai and end up only 2 survive. The one got lucky i separated each other. If not I'm sure only one survive. I think this scenario could help you why channas cannot mix with others.

How about if I mix different species (of the same size)?

Even worse , with a mix of different channa species you'll be lucky if one survives.

And predicting the next question , the don't tolerate none - fish either lol.

With the exception of pleuros, channa must be kept solo or in breeding pairs.

Oops that should have said 'none-channa' . I hope it doesn't discourage you, a 300 would make an amazing channa tank. If you don't like pleuros a pair of channa still makes for an impressive tank. Aurantimaculata would have tons of room but you could load it with decore and plants. My pair have more then enough room in a 160. You could raise out a pair of just about any species in that size tank even barca or Emperors!

You won't be disappointed with any snakehead species, they are Very impressive and intelligent fish .

A 300g tank would be a nice Channa pleuro tank. I do not have experience with other channas but pleuros are great. If you get a group of small pleuros you'll get to see them putting on colors as they grow up. Also they are not shy fish (after they pass 4-5" mark) and roam around the tank all the time. I would assume the other channas would stay in hiding for most of the time (I might be wrong here, just a guess)

300g would be a great C. Pleurophthalma tank. A C. Lucius group may work as well. If you are OK with a group of dwarfs, C. Andrao would be an option as well.
I really like the idea of a C. Marulioides pair.

I always forget about lucius , i've never kept them and have read very little about them. I have heard they are not as aggressive as other channa.
