Last night I noticed that my snakehead had decided that the delhezi, who stupidly kept swimming back over to annoy him, needed some discipline and kept swimming up to her and trying to bite her stomach.

It wasn't like a quick, annoyed move, more like his normal 'I'm hungry and you look tasty....' slow, sneak.

I can't decide whether he's testing to see if she's small enough to fit in his mouth (they're about the same length, which is around 6" or so, but she's younger and skinnier), or if she was just annoying him too much.

There's no visible injuries on her and she seems fine, plus he's ignoring her now she's over the other side of the tank.

What do you guys think - leave her or move her?

Given a sneakheads potential relentlessness, I say better safe than sorry, and separate them.

Are they the only two in the tank?

i disagree. what species of channa is it?

I feel it is ok to keep together but as a delz lover, personally I would sep to playsafe for the delz

I'm not saying some of the Channas aren't aggressive enough, but if it's the Giant Snakehead ( Channa Micropeltes ), move!

A Giant Snakehead is just a ticking time bomb.

It's definitely not a giant species, but other than that it's as yet unidentified because it was a new import - listed as channa sp 'flouro green' at Wildwoods.

Strangely, they haven't repeated that behaviour again so I think it might have just been that she was annoying him too much that night!

They are not the only ones in the tank btw - tis a 500l with flagtails (yes I know but as yet they're nice as pie), shovelnoses, doras, fw archers and a couple of plecs.:)

Interesting... is it possible to post a pic of it? Curious to see this new undiscovered sp.? :)

Did a search... Congrats, very nice pickup, Ami. :)

This stunning new fish has never been imported into the UK before. As yet it hasn't been classified but is thought to be a variant of Channa punctata. This beauty is known as Channa Sp. fluoro green. Numbers of this new fish are extremely limited and it will sell out quickly.
