oh I see...i was planning on getting one for my tank to grow in for about the first few months to a year till its gains some size in it and then add it to the pond with the others....as for my tank temperature it around 78-82 degree's but it will go down to 74-76 degree's at night...
I never saw slower growth rates yet. My bad boy is way outgrowing my rtc. He is 22" and only had him about 13 months. I got him at 2" with no fins or whiskers. Had sat in the pet store for 4 months with fin and tail rot and never grew any. He eats more than any cat I have at that size as well. Had the rtc maybe a month or two less and it's only 17.5 or 18".
I take your growth rates as out of the norm LOL, I've kept both indoors and out and my outdoor ones have always grown quicker... that was during my younger obsession with Natives
I would like to see some research to back this. In our local lakes summer water temps are in the 90's and the channels cruise in it feeding like crazy on topwater. I have yet to see any dying with the warmer temps and our state record is 45lbs with 20lbs being caught yearly so they seem to grow just fine.
metabolism goes up in warmer temps causing them to feed more to sustain but I do not believe this would stunt them.
