channel cat tank size??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Probably a good 10' by 5' at adult size. Depth will determine gallonage.

the one in my avatar was about 30" and lived in a 8'x2' round indoor pond. He died a few weeks after the pic was taken when he jumped out of his holding tank that I but him in because I was switching out that pond for a larger 10x2.5 one :/ So a pond of similar proportions would be good.

so if i build a pond thats about 8foot long, 4foot wide and 2-3feet deep that shoud be enough for one, maybe 2 channel???

Iam going to be selling my small boat for money to build my catfishes tank this upcoming summer (boat sold off by june). with the cash (1500-3500) build a movable (can be disassemble and reassembled) indoor pond of 10ft long by 5ft wide and 5ft tall. I have a 4 inch baby channel and other large catfish and koi.

Expect a similar commitment and channel catfish can over winter outdoors in all of the U.S. as long as ya got 3ft of water depth and enough room for them to do laps safely.Keep the outdoor pond private and not connected to other waterways.

Channel cats can hit length close to 4ft if not bigger. they need alot of room when adault. 8 foot long and 3 foot deep would barely be enough room however you should go at least a foot wider if not bigger. at 4 ft wide it might be a little cramped for an adult channel cat to turn around. i think a 10x5x3 would be a better choice for a channel cat. If you wanting to house more then one your going to need a bigger pond.

Hah! A 4 foot channel cat!? I don't think the record was even that big. And the record is only 58 pounds, so they are about 1/3 the size of redtails. I would say an 8x3 would hold them for a LONG time. Maybe going 40" wide after a while.
