channel cat tank size??

lol your right the world record caught on line and hook was 58 pound but
Channel catfish can attain approximately 40 inches in total length and nearly 44 pounds in body weight... Growth of channel catfish to fingerling and edible size is influenced by a variety of factors..Water temperature, quality of the diet, feeding rate, age of fish, and stocking density noticeably affect the growth rate of the fish..Catfish require a well-balanced diet which is high in protein and energy!!! so if in a well maintain pond and well fed they can get big. They diffently need the room to move about. IMO 10x5x3 would be best for a channel cat

Hah! A 4 foot channel cat!? I don't think the record was even that big. And the record is only 58 pounds, so they are about 1/3 the size of redtails. I would say an 8x3 would hold them for a LONG time. Maybe going 40" wide after a while.

world record redtailcatfish is 51.5 kilograms
or 113.3 lbs

113.3/2 = 56.65

making record channel catfish 1/2 (not 1/3) the size of redtails.

Channel catfish are active catfish and could use the room to swim, i would say it would be same to assume that in a few years in capitivity that your animal MIGHT reach 30" in length. that being said, an 8foot by 4ft tank or pond should be plenty. if your going to want one than one a little extra space should be provided.

And to add what I said, channel cats grow fairly slowly compared to other large catfish, so good luck on having one long enough for it to reach 36"+

That's the record caught on rod and reel (51.5 kg redtail), as some know, most fish in the amazon are caught with other methods, and Redtails have been found that weigh 150 lbs plus, so my statement of saying channel cats are about 1/3 the size of redtails is accurate.
Here's a pic.

To keep your Channel Catfish from growing to huge... You just need to have a winter period... If you don't... your channel will grow to the fullest extent... Thats why all native fish from the south compared to the north are generally larger... They eat all year round... North have a slow metabolism in the winter... don't eat as much

According to Petersons Field Guide to Freshwater fishes they can attain lengths up to 50 inches. 3ft + channels are common in some rivers and lakes in Missouri. Its mainly dependent on Genes and diet as stated in posts before; but I would definately rather err on the side of a bigger pond, than a smaller one (dont have to redo it or make another one).
