yes i used to have one i got him when he was about 2 inches and he grew to about 8 inches and i let him go where i cought him, they are very eay to keep and will eat anything!

I have one ATM. They are quite shy and grow very fast IME. I bought mine at 3" in the beginning of February. Now he is 13-14". They will eating almost anything you but in the tank. I hear they average around 30" or so and can live in cold or warm water. Great scavengers and can hold their own grown when being threatened. Here is mine when he was 10".

Thanks for the responses. I thought it was weird for a fish that you can catch in lakes would be at the LFS. I guess that is one of those few fish you can release when they get too big.

No, its not a fish you can release when it gets too big. There is no such thing as a fish you can release when it gets too big. NEVER RELEASE A FISH INTO THE WILD!!!!!!!

Even if it's a fish that already lives there?

Once a fish is captive, it must stay that way. They are not exposed to the same threats, foods, weather, water parameters, etc in captivity like they are in the wild. Its not fair to them, and potentially harmful to the environment. Chances are the cats at the lfs are captive bred. Do NOT release. Even if you hook one young and raise it. No-go.
