After browsing the forums for a while I see that many people on this site post "growout" threads where they keep up with a fishes progress as it gets larger... So here is my channel catfish... Currently in my 30 gallon long community. I know it is coldwater... I will be setting up a new tank soon.

Cute guy. Hopefully you have a bigger tank - you'll need to move him in about 3 or 4 months.

I know this! I can put him in my outdoor pond. Although I would rather build a coldwater river tank with him as the main fish we will see! I have had him for 3 months and he has only grown an inch...

Toss a heater in there and put it at about 78, a 90g filter on it, and feed him twice daily a staple food( mine loved massivore) and he will get huge fast. Mine hit 15+ inches in 8 months before he took the leap of faith and died. Here's an older picture of him.

Keep in mind also, that just because they can tolerate cold water doesn't mean they should be kept cold.

For optimal growth, yes, use a heater - but not if you don't want him to grow fast.

Keep in mind, that they swim a lot - so need a lot of swimming room - unlike the more passive monsters, such as Wels.

Mine seems to hide under those 3 rocks... Sits there... Every 8-10 minutes he comes out for 30 seconds then goes back... He is eating alot now! Becoming an Active feeder!
