I have three channels, of varying sizes, and the body shape of this guy just looks off too me to call it a channel. I'd say something more like a bullhead, which will be smaller than a channel...
It's not that they don't have the top barbells it's that they are much smaller and thinner. All north american catfish have four sets of barbells. Pimelodid and other families do not. Some asian catfish also have the top ones.

I like them either way you just need a bigger tank, because even bullheads can get 14 inches.
Sometimes more depending on the species. Most bullhead records are anywhere from 3 lbs to 8 lbs. That's a big kitty! Plan for 18" and hope for 14", my black bullhead grew from 8" to 14" in a year.

Ok I think I know what they are now, I think they are bullheads because of their tail are rounded and channel cats have their tails forked.
Right on! Just remember they can still get very large. 100% bullhead just in case you still had any worries. Myself I'm trying to get my hands on a flathead, and a blue catfish as well as a blue x channel hybrid. I just bought two normal colored channels today! good luck with this guy.
