Looking to mix in some more characins with my odoe pike group and silver dollars. Also have some Rhaphiodons growing out at a friends place. Any advice on some cool additions (Characins) would be appreciated :-)

My Ode lives with - 3x Cuda species(falcatus, microlepis, falcirostris), 2x Chalceus(red&pink), Hydro Scomb, Brycon Dentex, Silver Dat, 3 bar Indo Dat, BGK, Texas Escondido, Giant whiptail cat, TSN, Vampire pleco, Gangantic leaf fish.

OP has rays. Fish that can't be broke from live would be too much of a risk in my opinion unless you're gonna dabble in Ozone or UV.

Bicuda.... Absofrigginlutely. Good luck finding them. Study up on ID cause the only way they are affordable is if they are miss IDed in a group of more common Boulengerella sp. Other species will likely be eaten by the Rhaphs esp if you end up with a female Raph.

Scombs die. Accept it and don't waste your $.

Armatus. Too big, Hate our water. Expensive.

Tats work. Excellent to mix with Rhaphs. Downfall is slow growth, always an important factor when mixing with rays.

Brycon don't mix with Raphs. Raphs are VERY peacefull and spook easy. I've heard they are very similar to Dorado in demeanor.

Chelceus would mix very well.

Cynopotomus are to die for. Perfect fish for this combo. VERY rare. IF found buy them all. I'll pay for them.

ATF... Not really sure. Never tried Atf, but would like to and think it would work, however you're looking at upgrades or rehoming as I've heard they are just stupid skittish when kept with rays. If you wanna order some lemme know. ;)

May wanna look into wolves.... Reds or Gold (smaller species) could work.

Just keep in mind that despite the teeth many Characins are VERY peacefull and extremely timid. If care isn't taken in tankmate selection it doesn't mean the fish will be lucky enough to die a quick death, it may suffer over a long period through stress, intimidation, constant pestering, reduced appetite and maybe even starving.

a raph eating a boulengerella, what? female raph? how do u sex them?

How big do the Boulengerella species get? (EXCLUDING Cuvieri) How fast do they grow?

Sexing Rhaphs.... I've read papers stating the females get much larger. If the fish tops out at 14-18 I would guess it to be male.

dont know how big they get but ive had a few 10 inchers b4 i sold them, grow a lot faster than rhaphs. just cant see how they could swallow them with the elongated body. as for sexing rhaphs not gonna challenge your expertise. out of all the species we have discussed in this thread rhaps imo are most skittish and flighty. my fatf just raped one of equal size.
