can you handle hedgehogs? or do people keep them for show?

African Pygmy Hedgehogs are very handleable. They are very interactive animals. As babies, they will take a little taming, they are very huffy and snorty, but it is mostly show. I wouldn't like a nip from one though. Handling African Pgymy Hedgehogs is like handling any hedgehog, you do it very carefully, and be nice and gentle and slow with them, yet very confident. Hedgepigs get spooked easily when first getting them out of their cage :)

Once tame, as said they are very interactive and inquisitive, and if the question was regarding their prickles, whenever I see a Native Hedgehog, I go right up and pick him up. Obviously the wild ones curl into a ball and prick their spines right up to prod you with as a defence, but it doesnt hurt in the slightest.

No. It would be illegal to sell our Native European Hedgehogs.
The species we have readily available in the UK is the African Pgymy Hedgehog, and the Long Eared Egyptian Hedgehog. The good thing with both species of readily available hedgehogs that we sell in the UK is that they are completely flea, mite, and tick free!
(:
