  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks! It took longer to clean the rocks that it did to create the structure lol. I spent about an hour total.

What I heard was good was a flower pot top side down with a cave like crack in the side.

i <3 clay pots, but the op wants something more natural looking.

true, I guess slate and silicone might be the best way to go, thanks everyone

definitely checking out that plecocaves site though, looks legit

In my exsperience. Silcone doesnt stick to rocks very well. I mean it works, but say you take took rocks for the sides, and silicone another one on top to make a cave it will keep them from sliding of. But if you pick them up by the top one it will come off. So if you do it be care full moving them around. Have never siliconed slate so i can not speak for that. But have with lots of other stuff and doesnt work for crap. Again just my exsperience. Allso have used a few different kinds of silicone to do it. Including ge products and the aqual real exspensive pet store silicone. Good luck.

Preciate the luck, id rather not have to silicone if i don't have to just depends on how much silicone i get, honestly for the bichirs i could probably make something acceptable with 3 pieces as long as the slate was about an inch thick on the bottom pieces

as far as clay pots that's still got potential, I could always just stack some rocks and stuff around it, and if it will reduce aggression im open to anything, natural or not lol

It grows algea quickly. I tried the silicone too and it didnt work. I also think that a cinder block?

hmm.. cinder block is a lot bigger/heavier than i'd like to put in my tank, stilla good suggestion though

I use different sized clay pots, siliconed together in weird angles to give an artistic effect.

I, too, am venturing into natural caves for my fish, have lots of holey rock and want to find something to keep it together. A SW friend of mine says that super glue gel works much better than silicone, and sets in about one minute (versus having to sit for 24 hours untouched before you can put it in the water) and she even uses it underwater to fix things. Seems mighty handy to me, and that's what I'm going to use.

One other thing I thought of. Since it sounds like you need to do something quick, stop by Petsmart tomorrow. They have some "natural looking" cave pieces for a pretty decent price ($7 I think). I forgot about them since I took them out of my tanks awhile back. In the photo I posted, on the left side, you can see the end of one of the pieces.

Matter of fact, if you're not in a huge hurry, PM me your address and I'll mail it to you tomorrow.

I think that a friend used a bird house and covered it with moss and rocks but my mom used plain wood
