Cheap filter for quarantine tank

ive bought two of these same sponge filters, and they have some that are 50cent less but dont come with the tubing, with shipping its 6.19 for the sponge filter and 8 feet of hose. I got a cheap pump of amazon and hand the whole thing for under 15 bucks

The only reason these filters aren't the norm is that they are generally considered ugly. I have my sponge hidden behind a fake mangrove root, so you can't really see it. I have also used a power head to increase flow-which kinda backfired when using in a tank that has a sand substrate...When i rinsed it off, I got mud...Darn digging Plecos..haha


And yes-sponge+air line+cheap air pump= benificial bacterial and no moving parts...Great for fry tanks too!

you can make your own diy sponge filter with some pvc piping and some sponges its pretty easy but then again sponge filters are relatively cheap so its your call

best sponge filters anywhere.. i only use the hydro V pro which i think is $1 more than the hydro V.. it's worth the extra IMO. only other thing you need is a powerhead or an air pump.. simple system, great filtration.

Just be carefull, some household sponges have anti mold ingredients bonded into them.
