i've heard stories about some fish not taking sinking pellets.

do you think this is common? if so, how can i encourage them to eat the pellets?

you do get hikari cichlid gold floating too. i like the sinking because i have bichirs and the sinking makes sure that the little ones who are a bit too shy to get in the mix actually get some of them.
whatever your fish will take is good as long as everyone gets some.
i had trouble when i tried the floating pellets so i went back to sinking.
depending on the type of fish you have you may need both because some may not come to the top to get some.

well, i am planning on getting some pellets in a couple of days, untill then i will just use my flakes.

i just set my tank up and it is my first, (just a little 100 litre untill find a cheap 6x 2 x2) so certainly no monster tank YET. i cycled it with 4 little danios and now i've added a silver shark. all my fish are only bout 3cm at the moment lol.

when i put my flakes in, the danios go crazy and eat it before my shark shows any interest.

im hoping the pellets solve this problem, went to pets at home today but they only sell floating pellets. :-(

i strongly suggest ebay for the pellets. i priced the same bag i have at an lfs and it was almost a fiver more even after i take postage into consideration.

one thing tht is on my mund tho, i assume a lot of the good bacteria is on the bio media in my sump and not much is in the water its self? just a bit worried about how much bacteria ill be destroying?

yes there will be a lot spread throughout the sump but there will also be a lot on the tank surfaces as well and also on the decor, gravel, etc. read this http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=264851, paying particular attention to what nc_nutcase has to say about bio media.

if you stick to about 25-50% of your whole volume of water for removal on a waterchange you wont go wrong as long as you remember to use dechlorinator.

remember, if you clean your media in your sump then always rinse in a bucket of tank water and if you replace any sponges because they are worn out then only replace half of them at a time.

how big is your sump seeing as your tank is 100 litres?
