so i gotta try puttin something with my fahaka even though i know the odds are against me. hes only like 4" now so maybe if i start him with tankmates at a young age it might work, but if it doesnt i want the fish to be cheap, any suggestions/ past experiences? im thinking small schooling fish perhaps.

haven't heard of much working with fahaka's....it'd have to be something tough that could take a beating....but those teeth kinda make me think like tankmates aren't really a good idea

Tough has nothing to do with it--they tear flesh. Try some really small, fast fish, like zebra danios. The next fish I tried, were rainbow/redtail sharks. They're huge now!

yeah I would jsut try verious fast moving ditherfish, what works with mine though is i have a simese flying fox whoes been wiht mine for a wile now and neevr problums. My fahaka almost ignors him.

I had luck keeping 2 Fahakas together for about 8 months. Finally had to seperate due to size difference.

Mine is currently housed with 1 silver dat and 2 feather fin Synodontis.....No troubles with the dat except it steels food from the puffer....syno's have slightly shorter "feathers" now.....

I have seen pics of a good sized fahaka with a silver dat.

Definatly danios...puffers are kind of slower moving expecially at large sizes...and even if your fahaka nabs some of them youve lost what...80cents?. I keep them with most of my larger fish as a clean up crew of sorts...and they are so fast moving they rarely if ever get caught and they giant danios do become rather nice looking when kept properly. Mine are almost orangish yellow with blueish green markings :)

I had luck with giant danios and tinfoil barbs..

When the tinfoil barbs starting getting fat around 6", they slowly started to disappear.

He never caught the danios though.

It's really hit-or-miss with fahakas. 99% of them are killers. If they are, you can bet they will eventually eat everything you put in there that they can catch. Sounds like DB junkie has one of the 1%ers, along with myself. I would NEVER risk even trying 2 fahaka together though. The experts don't know how they get close enough even to breed.

I have several baby crossed jinkang x bloodparrot fry about a half inch long with mine... one had a fin chunk missing once... haven't seen any problems since.. they live in harmony it appears lol
