cheap fish

I picked up two T. dubois for around 1/4 what they'd usually cost [not sure what theyre worth in the US but theyre bloody expensive here] because the owner of the LFS, who I'm good friends with, knew he got them for cheap but forgot how cheap. He didnt lose any money on them, but he didnt make any either.
 
I have gotten stuff cheap/free from knowlegable lfs guys simply because they couldn't sell them or wanted me to bring in my trades or (sneaky) knew I'd soon need a bigger tank.
 
I am in awe guppy, that some of your lfs employees were knowledgeable enough to attempt such a maneuver.

They were a family operations, the place in Oakland, 84-85, was owned by a Ex Viet O5 who knew my dad. Which would you deal with, dummies or mild scammers?
 
I got a butterfly fin koi for the same price as the normal fin koi (they were all like $9.oo each, just babies) but most places around here you would pay double that of the normal price. I’m not sure if they didn’t know what they were doing, or if I just have better eyes than the pond store people. .

I got a 16"ck for free from petsmart, 17" chinese perch for $40, giant gourami for $5, my big jag for a DIY protein skimmer, albino channel cat for free.

and from a member of this site I got a tig and black aro for free.
