Cheap glass heaters = fish stew

I dont even know why i still have a few cheap glass heaters since i know how much they suck!!!!!!! the heater in my planted 10g went bonkers while i was at work.

Got home and the thermometer read over 100 degrees :shocked: the water was friggin HOT!!!!!!!!!!! i had only 3 Buenos Aires Tetras in there. put them in my 55g asap, two survived, one didnt.

Good thing they only cost $1.99 and i only lost one!

LESSON LEARNED: dont be a cheap *** and buy glass heaters. spend the money the first time, do it right, and get a Stealth heater!!!
 
i think its cause i got it free with a tank i bought. i believe its a proven fact that if you get a glass heater for free youll be having fish soup for dinner :ROFL:
 
sorry for the loss of the fish. I know as a fish enthusiast, I take it very personally if I can't keep a livable area for my fish. Feel bad if its my fault and I cause them to die.

Thanks for the tip. I've never had a glass heater go completely hay-wire, but I have seen them offer my fish lots of temperature variations and I've wondered if there is the potential for the heater to go too extreme.

Next time I buy, I definitely will go higher-end on my heater.
 
Had few bad experiences with glass heaters myself and its frustrating when it happens out of blue.
 
I just had a tetra heater go bad (big surprise) and a top fin (another shocker) set at the lowest setting run two different tanks over 90 degree's. It looks like another trip to the god ol' lfs tomorrow to revamp my temperature equipment.
