i think its cause i got it free with a tank i bought. i believe its a proven fact that if you get a glass heater for free youll be having fish soup for dinner

I'm running a free 200w in the 38g it came with. No problems! :headbang2

stealth all they way
glass heaters crack easily, break if you dont unplug them while doing water changes, get moisture in them easily.... spend the few extras bucks and youll never have any problems

What's stealth made of?

I'm a fan of economy as long as it doesn't pose a risk to the fish. Remembering to unplug them isn't much of a burden on me. New $4 75w Meijer brand heaters are the way to go. They put them on clearance in the pet section, and I clear em out.

So I have multiple glass heaters in my 125. At least odds are they wont all go bad at once.

If one does go bad how would I know, does the light just not go off?

I also am in the process of switching out crappy glass heaters for stealth's. The glass heater I have im my 30 was set at 79 degress stayed that way for about 2 months, then it started to be on more and more and the temp got lower and lower and I was like wtf?!?! so I exchanged it because it had a warenty, plugged the new one in worked fine for 2 weeks, and now its slowly lowing the temp in the tank, So im just gunna toss it and buy a stealth

What brand of glass heaters are you guys buying? You get what you pay for. I have 3 Hydor Theo's in several tanks and they have been working fine. plus if the water level gets too low they have a auto shut off feature.

Damn, sucks dude. They only problem I've encountered with my heater is (besides breaking them) my 'guense likes to fight it. She beats up anything in or around the tank. She pushed the heater out of the tank completely and almost started a fire. I've went through 4 heaters in 6 years with this crazy b*tch.

I bought a used tank recently off ebay, came with the standard built in air pump, heater and sponges of course, Got home cleaned it all up since it all seemed a little old, but seemed to have aged well after being scrubbed down. put the heater into the tank, fiddled around with the dial, thing went faaaaar to hot. My thermometer goes upto 90degrees and it was past that easily. took out the heater to find the heater insanely hot, scolded my hand testing it >_>
Using a small 12pounds heating element now --originally used it in my 2-3gallon tank when it was just a betta i kept.
Funnily enough its managed to keep my tank at 79degrees, optimum temp for my pleco's and betta :] Value for money without a doubt
